The Smith & Wesson Model 36 (No-Dash) is a classic American snub-nose revolver that represents a significant milestone in post-WWII firearm design. Chambered in .38 Special, this compact revolver was the original “Chief’s Special,” unveiled at the 1950 International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. Built on Smith & Wesson’s newly designed J-frame, the Model 36 was developed to accommodate the .38 Special cartridge in a frame smaller than the earlier I-frame, which could not handle the increased pressure of the more potent round.
