Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The .38 Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model of 1905 represents a significant evolution in the lineage of S&W's revolver design and is the third installment in the company’s renowned .38 Hand Ejector series. Built on the versatile and durable K-frame, the Model 1905 is a six-shot, swing-out cylinder revolver chambered in .38 Special, a cartridge that would go on to become a law enforcement staple for much of the 20th century. This model served as a foundational blueprint for what would later become the S&W Victory Model and ultimately the iconic Model 10, one of the most widely issued service revolvers in history. The Model 1905 showcased S&W’s early commitment to modularity and customization, offering a wide variety of options during its production run. Barrel lengths were available in 2", 4", 5", 6", and 6.5", allowing users to tailor the revolver to specific needs, whether for civilian, military, or police use.

Cosmetically and functionally, the Model 1905 displayed a range of features that reflected its era's manufacturing precision and attention to user preferences. Buyers could select between round or square butt grip frames, checkered walnut or hard rubber grips, and finishes that included blued, nickel, or in rare cases, chrome plating. Some models were also fitted with a lanyard ring at the base of the grip, indicating military or police use. Structurally, the revolver utilized a "five screw" frame design—with four screws securing the side plate and an additional screw located in front of the trigger guard—representing the classic build of early 20th-century S&W revolvers. These design choices not only made the Model 1905 adaptable across various markets and users but also helped solidify its role in shaping the future of double-action revolvers in America and abroad. Today, the Model 1905 remains a prized piece among collectors and firearms historians, both for its craftsmanship and its place in the lineage of one of Smith & Wesson’s most enduring revolver platforms.
