Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 41 is a semi-automatic pistol designed specifically for competitive target shooting. It has a grip angle of 105 degrees, which is consistent with the Colt M1911 pistol, allowing for a consistent grip angle. Two prototypes, X-41 and X-42, were produced in July 1947 and underwent testing and improvements for a period of ten years. The Model 41 became available for sale in 1957, and by the end of 1958, Smith & Wesson had produced 9,875 units. A lighter 5-inch barrel was introduced for field use in 1958.

By 1978, the cocking indicator and 7 3/8-inch barrel were discontinued and the 7-inch barrel was introduced in 1978, but with no provision for a muzzle brake. A 6-inch barrel was offered for a few months in 1991. However, in 1992, the Model 41 was discontinued. It was later reintroduced in 1994 as the Model 41 (New Model) by Smith & Wesson.
