Like most 3rd generation Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistols, the 4506 comes with a combination safety lever and decocker mounted on the slide, a plunger-type firing pin safety, a magazine disconnect, and a pin-mounted, pivoting spring-actuated external extractor. The Smith & Wesson Model 4563 is a midsize version of the Model 4506, featuring a 4 1⁄4" barrel on a full-size alloy frame.
The 4563TSW is a firearm that boasts a full-size aluminum frame along with a stainless steel slide. It uses the Traditional Double-action mechanism and has a satin stainless finish. The magazine can hold up to 8 rounds, while the barrel measures 4-1/4 inches. The .260" spurred hammer comes with a .305" combat trigger. The sight system consists of a White dot front sight and a Novak Lo-Mount Carry 2 dot rear sight. The backstrap and grips are straight. In the year 2000, the 4563TSW underwent some modifications. Black hardware was used on the frame and slide, and a black equipment rail was mounted under the forward part of the frame to accommodate accessories. Each TSW unit has a frame and slide machined as a matched set, with an assembly number on each half. The barrel has a loaded chamber indicator, and the front strap is now checkered. The frame and slide are fitted with oversized frame rails, and the barrel bushing is fixed. The firearm weighs 30.6oz and was produced from 2000 to 2006.

The Smith & Wesson Model 4506 is a type of semi-automatic pistol that belongs to the 4500 series of handguns, which is the third generation of the series. The pistol is designed to shoot the .45 ACP cartridge and can also handle the stronger .45 Super with the use of special springs.
