Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The S&W Model 61 is a blowback-operated pistol chambered in .22 Long Rifle based upon the Bayard 1908 (Pieper Bayard) pistol. It was marketed for self-defense to fill a void in the pocket auto market after the banning of importation of small, concealable handguns. The pistol was available in blued or nickel-plated finishes and black or white plastic grip panels.
In September of 1970 a barrel bushing (or barrel nut) was added to the end of the barrel to more precisely position it in the frame, thus manufacturing the 61-2. Previous barrels had been press-fitted into the frame and could not be removed. Serial numbers for the Model 61-2 ran from B9851 to B40000, with a total of 30150 being manufactured. In total, approximately 65,000 Model 61's were produced.
Contents:
This Smith & Wesson will ship with the S&W box, the zippered S&W case, and all other contents seen in the many photos above! Please note that the serial number on the box is not matching to the serial of the firearm. It is likely that the original boxes got accidentally switched at time of original purchase as this tended to happen very often.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
