Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 629, unveiled in 1978, represents a stainless steel variant of the renowned Model 29. Initially, the Model 29 held the title of the most powerful production handgun. However, it was eventually outclassed by firearms utilizing the larger .454 Casull and .50 Action Express cartridges. The Model 629 achieved global fame due to its association with the iconic fictional character "Dirty Harry" Callahan. Smith & Wesson's naming convention for the 629 stems from their method of indicating a stainless steel version of an existing model by prefixing a 6 to the original model number.
Lew Horton has played a significant role in promoting the excellence of collectible Smith & Wesson products. The following is a model from one of Mr. Horton's earlier Special Edition releases. The Smith and Wesson 629 is a powerful revolver with smooth operation. It is chambered for .44 Magnum and .44 Special, providing knockdown power, accuracy, and precision suitable for hunting, competition, personal protection, and home defense. Notable features of this model include the red ramp on-ramp base front sight, white outline rear sight, .312" smooth combat trigger, and semi-target hammer. This 629 is highly sought after by S&W collectors!
