Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 64 Military and Police revolver is the stainless steel version of the Model 10, offering a six-shot, double-action design chambered in .38 Special with fixed sights. As the second all-stainless steel revolver from Smith & Wesson (following the Model 60), the Model 64 became popular among law enforcement agencies, especially in high-humidity regions where its corrosion and rust resistance made it a better alternative to the blued Model 10. Introduced in 1974, the Model 64 was offered in various configurations, including a 4" heavy barrel version and a 2" round butt variant. The 4" model became especially favored by police agencies, with five variants produced specifically for the NYPD, marked "NY1" to distinguish them from standard department-issued guns. The Model 64 was one of the two stainless revolvers authorized by the NYPD, alongside the Ruger Service-Six, and remained in use until it was replaced by 9mm semi-automatic pistols in 1993. Known for its accuracy, reliability, and manageable recoil, the Model 64 continues to see service in roles such as security, inmate transportation, target shooting, and personal defense.
