Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson Model 645, also known as the 2nd generation .45!
**This example is a desirable limited production model, only being made for 4 years from 1985-1988!**
SPECIFICATIONS:
Manufacturer: Smith & Wesson
Model: 645
Serial: TAK1073
Date of Manufacture: 1985-1987
Caliber: .45 ACP
Finish: Stainless Steel
Barrel Length: 5"
Optics/Sights: Red Insert Serrated Ramp Front with White Outline Rear
Stock/Grips: Black Checkered Nylon Grips with S&W Logos
Action: Semi-Automatic
Markings: Standard
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Caliber - .45 ACP, introduced late 1985, 8-shot single stack magazine, traditional double-action, stainless steel materials, serrated ramp front sight with red ramp insert with white outline rear sight, 5" barrel, ambidextrous safety, 260" serrated hammer, 365" smooth trigger, black checkered nylon grips, this model was the first commercial production of a 45 auto by S&W. Squared trigger guard, an engraved pre-production model sold at auction for $67,000 for the Olympics. Weight is 37.5 ounces. No real details on the transitional guns other than Model number markings-our thoughts are they are mixed within Fixed sight and adjustable sight variations from the 645 to the 4506 models. First production serial range TAK0001-TAK7727 Early 645s have a Phillips head screw in the decocker, later ones have an Allen head screw. Early guns have an alloy blackstrap, later guns have a plastic blackstrap. Early guns have a half cock hammer notch later guns do not. The DA trigger travel is reduced by about 1/4" on later guns. S&W has had at least 4 upgrades of the 8-round 645 magazines, the latest has a black follower and square indents on the feed lips. Produced circa 1985 1988.
