Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 66 is a stainless steel, double-action revolver that has long held a revered place among law enforcement professionals and civilian shooters alike. Introduced in 1970 as a stainless variant of the Model 19, the 66 was built on Smith & Wesson’s K-frame and chambered for the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge, while also capable of firing .38 Special. Its stainless construction made it more resistant to corrosion and wear than its blued-steel predecessors, which contributed to its popularity among officers who needed a dependable sidearm for daily carry in varied environmental conditions. With its balanced frame and manageable weight, the Model 66 offered excellent handling and recoil control—attributes that made it especially well-suited for defensive use, training, and general-purpose shooting.

Over the years, the Model 66 evolved through multiple engineering changes, including improved internal components and updated barrel designs. Though it was discontinued in 2005, strong demand led Smith & Wesson to reintroduce the Model 66 in 2014 with modern refinements, including a two-piece barrel and a redesigned frame to handle the pressures of full-power .357 Magnum loads more effectively. The new production models retain the classic styling and ergonomics that made the original so beloved, while integrating contemporary enhancements for today’s shooters. Whether you're a revolver enthusiast, collector, or someone seeking a reliable and classic wheelgun for defense or range work, the Smith & Wesson 66 continues to be a standout example of balance, performance, and enduring design.
