The 6900-series is an upgraded model of Smith & Wesson's 69 series, which were compact 9mm pistols that came with double-column magazines. The 69-series pistols were created to be small enough for easy concealed carry, yet they had considerable firepower that made them ideal as service weapons. The 6900-series replaced the Smith & Wesson Model 469 and came with some minor refinements. Just like the Model 469, the barrel length was 3.5 inches, and the magazine capacity was 12 rounds. The Model 6904 had a blued carbon steel slide and a black anodized aluminum alloy frame, while the Model 6906 was similar to the Model 6904 but had a stainless steel slide and a lightweight matching color satin-finished aluminum alloy frame. Additionally, the Model 6906 featured 3-dot white sights, a black Xenoy one-piece wrap around grip with a curved backstrap that provides a secure grip.
