Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 4th Change is a double/single-action revolver chambered for the .32-20 Winchester cartridge, built on the square-butt K-frame in the traditional five-screw configuration. It was offered with 4-, 5-, and 6-inch round pinned barrels, finished in either blue or nickel, and equipped with a forged round-blade front sight. Standard service models featured a flattened top strap with a square-notch rear sight, while target models used a square-cut blade mounted and pinned in a raised boss with an adjustable rear mounted directly in the top strap. Target versions also carried serrated front and rear grip tangs with six grooves, were produced only in square-butt configuration, and were available solely with a 6-inch barrel, beginning in 1923. Grips were either checkered black hard rubber or checkered diamond walnut without medallions. The revolver used a six-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.56 inches. Heat-treated cylinders began at approximately serial number 81287. Serial numbers were applied to the butt, cylinder face, yoke, barrel flat, and the area behind the extractor star.
