Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson K-22 Outdoorsman is a .22 Long Rifle double-action revolver, specifically built on the square butt K-frame with five screws, indicative of classic Smith & Wesson design features from the early 20th century. This model is notable for its 6-shot fluted cylinder with counterbores, available in either a blue finish or, by special order, a nickel finish. The revolver's 6-inch round pinned barrel lacks a rib, contributing to its streamlined appearance and is complemented by a Patridge front sight, favored for precision shooting. This model includes the K Target frame, featuring a floating firing pin, flat-faced hammer, non-shrouded extractor rod and a smooth semi-round topstrap with an adjustable rear sight for windage and elevation, facilitating accuracy adjustments. Mechanically, it is built on the .38 Hand Ejector frame, yet chambered for .22 Long Rifle, and its serial numbers fall within the M&P 1905 4th change series, specifically in the range from 632124 to about 682419. The first documented example, serial number 632132, was presented to Doug Wesson on January 3, 1931, highlighting its significance and historical context. With a weight of 35.5 ounces, this revolver was produced between 1931 and 1940, with a total of 19,500 units manufactured. The combination of its precision-oriented features, historical significance, and limited production run makes this revolver a noteworthy piece for collectors and enthusiasts of classic firearms.
