According to the owner, this particular example is a prototype Smith & Wesson M317 revolver that was previously owned by a former S&W tool room/performance center employee. It is believed to be a one-of-a-kind model, potentially created during the development process or as part of early-stage testing. It has significant historical value, as it was part of the hands-on production and design phase within the S&W tool room/performance center, providing a unique glimpse into the manufacturing and prototyping processes of Smith & Wesson.
