Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 500 was born out of a bold collaboration between Smith & Wesson and Cor-Bon Ammunition in the early 2000s, aimed at developing the most powerful production revolver ever made. The result was the creation of the massive X-Frame, designed specifically to handle the newly developed .500 S&W Magnum cartridge—a round capable of delivering energy levels previously reserved for high-powered rifles. Smith & Wesson’s goal was to create a revolver that could take down any game animal in North America, and with the introduction of the Model 500 in 2003, they did just that. It redefined the limits of handgun performance and quickly earned a reputation as a go-to revolver for extreme handgun hunting and long-range power. The Performance Center version of the Model 500 takes the platform even further, incorporating custom-tuned internals, precision-fit components, and special features tailored to serious shooters. These enhancements often include a hand-tuned action, muzzle compensators or brakes to help tame recoil, precision-crowned barrels, and upgraded sights. Built in limited numbers by Smith & Wesson’s in-house master gunsmiths, Performance Center 500s are offered in a variety of barrel lengths, from compact, trail-ready models to extended 10.5" hunting configurations. Whether appreciated for its craftsmanship, collected for its status, or used in the field for taking down dangerous game, the Performance Center Model 500 stands as a modern icon of revolver engineering and raw ballistic power.
