The Smith & Wesson SW99, a collaborative effort between Smith & Wesson and Walther, presents a modern rendition of the esteemed Walther P99. This polymer-framed pistol mirrors its German counterpart closely, with Walther supplying the modified receiver from Germany and Smith & Wesson handling the slide and barrel manufacturing in the United States. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, and notably .45 ACP, the SW99 boasts an internal striker system, diverging from the traditional external hammer design. Its safety features include a de-cocking button atop the rear section of the slide, activating double-action mode, along with indicators for loaded chamber and cocking status, plus a drop safety mechanism. The fully supported chamber design enhances safety by reducing the risk of causing rupture. Renowned Swiss grip designer Cesare Morini contributed to the ergonomic grip, which includes interchangeable rear inserts for optimal comfort and control. While sharing many similarities with the P99, the SW99 exhibits distinct frame and slide variations, including additional serrations on the slide and a unique trigger guard shape. Most notably, the SW99 offers the .45 ACP caliber option, setting it apart from its counterpart.
