The Star Firestar is a series of single-action semi-automatic pistols that received the 1991 Handgun of the Year Award from Guns & Ammo magazine. The Firestar includes four models and is available in 9 mm Para (M-43), .40 S&W (M-40), and .45 ACP (M-45) calibers, all of which come with a single-stack magazine. Additionally, a double-stack 9mm version (M-243) was also available and was commonly referred to as the "Firestar Plus." The Firestar was manufactured by the now-defunct Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. in Eibar, Spain, until 1994. Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia, imported the Firestar into the United States.
The Firestar is a reliable, accurate handgun that is compact and ideal for backup or concealed carry. Although its single-stack design limits the magazine capacity compared to a double-stack, it allows for a slim profile, which many prefer for concealed carry purposes. Although it's heavier than more modern handguns of similar size that are made from composite materials, many shooters find that the added weight provides a stable shooting platform, resulting in improved accuracy.
