Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1990, Bob Braverman filed for a patent and, in the following year, began producing the Model 2 Pengun through the American Derringer Company (ADC) of Waco, Texas. Shortly after, Braverman parted ways with ADC and, under the RJ Braverman Corporation based in Meredith, New Hampshire, began manufacturing a similar pistol, now renamed the Stinger. Produced between 1991 and 1997, the Stinger was available in several calibers including .22LR, .22WMR, .25ACP, .32 ACP, and .380 ACP, with the rimfire variants being the most common. The company also created a folding revolver visually reminiscent of the modern Chiappa Firearms Rhino.

Following a hiatus of about six years, the Stinger was briefly revived in 2002 by Stinger Manufacturing Company in Michigan, which had some connections to Braverman. However, this firm ceased operations in 2004. The total number of Stingers produced across the three different companies remains unclear but is believed to be quite limited.

Unlike the traditional pen guns, the Stinger was designed to be compliant with the National Firearms Act (NFA) and approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It could not fire while in its 'pen mode,' requiring the user to pivot the cylinder to convert it into a functional pistol. This transformation revealed the barrel and grip, with a small, non-guarded trigger popping out for use. The Stinger’s operation involved pointing the muzzle at the target and pushing upward on the trigger to fire, lacking sights for precision.

The Stinger measures just under 6 inches in length when in 'pen mode,' comparable to a standard disposable pen but thicker like a Sharpie marker. Weighing 5 ounces, it is heavier than a typical pen but lighter than many compact single-shot derringers. Constructed entirely from steel, including the case, 2-inch barrel, and internal components, the Stinger eschews aluminum, pot metal, and polymers, giving it a robust appearance akin to a tire pressure gauge rather than a pen gun. Additionally, it features a metal collar behind the barrel that twists to act as a rudimentary yet effective safety device.
