Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Stoeger Luger, officially designated the Stoeger STLR-4 (and related STLL variants), was an American-made .22 Long Rifle semi-automatic pistol produced from 1969 through 1985 by Stoeger Arms Corporation (later Stoeger Industries). Stoeger had owned the U.S. trademark for the name “Luger” since the 1920s and had previously imported .22 versions fabricated by German firms before manufacturing their own design. The pistol mimicked the iconic toggle-lock appearance of the original German P.08 Luger, but operated via a straight blowback action—the toggle assembly was purely cosmetic and did not lock during firing, unlike the original recoil-operated Luger P.08. Early models used an aluminum frame rated at 82,000 psi, while later versions switched to a heavier steel frame. Offered mainly with a 4.5-inch barrel, with rare 5.5-inch versions also made, it used a 10-round magazine and featured either wooden or checkered plastic grips.

Despite some quirks in performance, the Stoeger Luger offered an affordable and visually faithful tribute to the classic P.08 design. When paired with high-velocity ammunition and proper maintenance, it delivered enjoyable and reliable shooting, making it a popular choice among collectors and enthusiasts until production ended in 1985.
