The Swiss Arms SG 553P is a variant of the SG 553 rifle designed and produced by Swiss Arms AG, a Swiss firearms company. The SG 553P was introduced in 2008 as a semi-automatic civilian firearm for both Swiss and international markets. It was designed primarily for law enforcement applications, which is why the "P" in the name stands for "Police." These rifles were imported into the U.S. starting in 2014 in VERY LIMITED quantities by Sig Sauer Inc.

In 2014, Sig Sauer Inc. imported a limited number of Swiss Arms SG 553 pistols to the U.S. market. The SG 553 is a Swiss-built rifle with an adjustable two-position gas piston system, ambidextrous controls, and a hooded front sight. It is based on the SG 551/552-series gas piston action. "The classic SG rifle series are highly sought among collectors and firearms experts," said Jeff Creamer, SIG Sauer executive director and general merchandise manager. "This was a unique opportunity and the only time SIG Sauer has been able to offer the SG 553 to the commercial market in the United States."
The SG 553 rifle is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and is available in two variations. The first variation features the Swiss Rotary Diopter Sight, which is permanently welded to the receiver. The second variation comes with a Picatinny rail that allows you to mount optics or accessories. Additionally, all models of the SG 553 come nitride-finished, making them more durable. The railed models also come with flip-up sights as standard equipment. The SG 553 pistol features a polymer handguard in Swiss style, translucent polymer Swiss magazines that can hold up to 30 rounds, and a three-prong flash-hider. It has a barrel length of 8.9 inches, an overall length of 20.2 inches when extended, and a weight of 5.9 pounds without a magazine.
