The Taurus Model 44 is a 6 shot fluted cylinder that is chambered for .44 Magnum and acts as both single and double action. The revolver features a heavy full-lug ported barrel, which reduces the recoil when the firearms is discharged. It also has a Patridge front blade and adjustable rear sight. The firing mechanism includes a transfer bar safety with a double locking cylinder and the rebound slide is replaced by a coiled trigger return spring and strut.
