The hammerless design lends itself well to waistbands, leg holsters, and especially purses. It was designed by Taurus as an entry-level self-defense weapon that can still deliver the firepower you need in a tense, hostile situation.

With a six-round chamber, the single-action pistol is safe and very effective at close range. With just a three-inch barrel, you’re not likely to win any long-distance shooting contests, but since most attacks are a very close distance, this easily concealed weapon can give you a sporting chance in almost any situation.

Made of high-quality polymer material with a blued stainless-steel barrel, the pistol is small, just 6.2 inches long, an inch wide, and 4.5 inches high. At 19 ounces, recoil will be an issue, especially in the .40 caliber Smith and Wesson model, but the grip design aids in retaining a target after multiple shots, and with practice, you can drop decent patterns on paper targets at 30 yards.

Regarded as a sub-compact, the Slim 709 is easily concealable can be hidden from view in a man’s hand, and carries well even in a smaller purse.
