The Taurus pistol series includes a range of semi-automatic pistols made by the Brazilian company Forjas Taurus. The models in this series come in different calibers, such as 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .380 ACP, and .357 SIG. There are seven variants in the series, with both single stack and double stack options available.
There are three full-size variants in the series: PT908, PT909, and PT945. The compact variants include PT911, PT940, and PT957. Additionally, there is a subcompact variant, PT938. The first pistol in the series was the full-sized single stack 9mm, PT908. The PT909 is a double stack version of the PT908, designed to accept 10 round magazines. The PT-909 is an improved and newer variant of the PT-911, which has a slightly longer grip that can accommodate 17 round PT92 magazines. The PT940 is a .40 S&W version of the PT911, the PT945 is a beefed-up PT908 chambered in .45 ACP, the PT938 is a more compact version of the PT909, and the PT957 is a PT-908 in .357 SIG.
The Taurus pistol series was launched in the early 1990s with the aim of offering a higher-quality design than the budget-friendly pistols Taurus was known for. From a mechanical standpoint, the designs are a hybrid of both SIG-Sauer locked breech barrel design and the trigger safety lockwork from the Beretta 92/Taurus PT92. Visually, they resemble a Taurus PT92 series frame with a SIG-Sauer P220 series slide. All the models in the series have been discontinued since 2011, except for PT938 in .380 ACP, which is solely being offered for the Brazilian market.
