Taurus first began producing the PT-92 after acquiring the Beretta factory in São Paulo, Brazil, in the 1980s, following the expiration of a contract with the Brazilian military. Rather than continuing the production of Beretta-branded pistols, Taurus repurposed the factory and began manufacturing their own version of the iconic 92 design.
