Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Taylor's & Company Model 1873 in .44 W.C.F. (.44-40 Winchester) is a beautifully crafted tribute to one of the most iconic rifles of the American West. Known as "The Gun That Won the West," the original 1873 design from Winchester became an instant favorite upon its release—not just with civilians, but also with international military buyers. Taylors & Company has preserved the historic charm of this legendary firearm while offering modern reliability and craftsmanship. This particular model features an 18½" barrel with a distinctive half-octagon, half-round profile, finished in a deep blued steel that contrasts beautifully with the color case-hardened receiver. These period-correct finishes, along with standard dovetail blade front sight and an elevator-adjustable buckhorn rear sight, make the rifle as visually striking as it is functional.

The smooth, straight walnut stock and forend lend the rifle a classic, authentic feel, ideal for historical enthusiasts, cowboy action shooters, or anyone who appreciates traditional American gunmaking. The lever-action mechanism is smooth and responsive, offering quick cycling and consistent performance with the venerable .44-40 cartridge—a round famous for its effectiveness in both rifles and revolvers of the Old West. Taylor's & Company further enhances their 1873 lineup with optional custom action tuning packages, such as the Comanchero package with short-stroke modifications and aesthetic upgrades, or the Taylor Tuned package featuring hand-polished internals and lightened springs for one of the smoothest actions on the market. Even without these upgrades, this rifle stands out for its balance, fit, and finish. Whether used for competition, reenactment, display, or trail carry, the Taylor's & Company 1873 offers an authentic experience that honors the legacy of America’s most beloved lever-action rifle.
