Initially called the Tikka M76 and Tikka LSA55, this rifle was designed to be one of the most reliable and accurate rifles in the world. It was created between 1967 and 1968, and it was the first centerfire rifle action ever produced by Tikkakoski. The M55 rifle was produced for a long period, from 1968 to 1989, and during this time, a long-action variant of the rifle was also developed, called the Tikka M65. The Tikka M55 gained worldwide recognition for its exceptional quality and precision, and it was imported to the United States by the Ithaca Gun Company.
