Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Uberti 1885 High Wall in .45-70 is a faithful tribute to one of the most iconic single-shot rifles of the late 19th century. This modern reproduction is based on John Moses Browning’s legendary design, originally introduced by Winchester in 1885 and built to handle the most powerful cartridges of its time. Uberti has captured the essence of the original High Wall with meticulous attention to detail and high-quality craftsmanship. This model features a 30-inch octagonal barrel finished in deep bluing, paired with a color case-hardened frame that reflects the period-correct style of the late 1800s. The rifle is outfitted with a blade front sight and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, perfect for traditional target shooting or hunting. The high-polish walnut stock and forearm are finely fitted, providing both a refined appearance and a comfortable shooting experience.

Chambered in the potent .45-70 Government cartridge, this rifle is capable of taking any big game in North America and is also highly respected in the world of long-range black powder cartridge rifle (BPCR) competitions. The High Wall’s solid, lever-actuated falling block action is renowned for its exceptional strength and simplicity, making it an ideal platform for precision shooting. Originally designed for competitive marksmen in the post-Civil War era—a time when shooting matches were as popular as modern-day sports—this design has stood the test of time. With its historical roots, powerful chambering, and beautifully executed build, the Uberti 1885 High Wall offers shooters both a connection to America's shooting heritage and a highly functional rifle for hunting or competitive use. Whether displayed as a collector's piece or put to work in the field, it is a stunning example of 19th-century innovation reborn for the modern marksman.
