The Enforcer draws inspiration from the M1 Carbine, a lightweight semi-automatic firearm that served the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The M1 Carbine's popularity extended beyond military use, becoming a favored choice among civilians and paramilitary forces worldwide. The Enforcer model, essentially a pistol variant of the M1 Carbine, reflects this heritage and innovation in firearm design. In 1977, Plainfield Machine introduced the "Super Enforcer," which continued the legacy after the company’s assets were acquired by Louis Imperato and rebranded as Iver Johnson's Arms in 1978. Early models of both the Enforcer and the Super Enforcer are marked with the designation PP-30 on the receiver ring, a historical reference that connects them to their origins. Throughout its production run, Universal Arms manufactured more than 426,000 M1 carbines from 1961 to 1986, establishing itself as a leader in the market, significantly outpacing other commercial carbine manufacturers.
