Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Vega was a project brought on by a company in Sacramento called Pacific International who found it difficult to do business with AMT (AMT rudely expected to be paid for their guns). At that time the market was just screaming for stainless 1911’s. Pacific International had contacts with all of the gunsmiths and subcontractors who were working for FedOrd, AMT, Randall and Detonics, so they just figured they could build a gun just as easy. Pacific International was one of many companies (Inter-American, Armscor Precision, ARMEX International, Dealer Warehouse and perhaps a half dozen others) that operated out of one of the many warehouses in Sacramento. Their retail outlet was the Old Sacramento Armory and all companies are now defunct with the exceptions of The Dealer Warehouse which was sold and is still in business, and Armscor Precision was an uncomfortable partnership that has flourished since splitting. Armscor was actually a Philippine company that shared a warehouse and used Pacific International’s importation expertise. Casting of the frame and slides was done by a company located in Santa Anna (IIRC) and was the same company that made frame and slide castings for FedOrd. Machining was done by some talented (and somewhat famous) gunsmiths in Southern California at first, and later at least 3 different machine shops in So-Ca. All was then sent to Sacramento for finishing and assembly, or finished and assembled in So-Cal.

At first, barrels were bought from AMT minus the loaded chamber viewing hole (a feature that can now be found on S&W 1911’s). Later, barrels were bought from the same shop that did barrels for Randall, a broaching shop from West Covina. The last group of barrels came from the same sub-contractor who did barrels for Detonics, and is the same sub-contractor who did the L&H Engineering match M1A barrels. Pins and springs were sub-contracted from the same makers who make pins and springs for all of the big makers today. The early internal parts were actually seconds from the same sub-contractors who supplied parts to Detonics and Randall. Later in life, Vega began using quality parts from some of the same makers who make GI-type-parts today that can be found in Brownells’ or in SGN. Magazines were made by the same company that made magazines for Detonics, and every one I encountered was a good to very good magazine. Later the machinery to make the magazine was sold to a very large magazine manufacturing concern who makes top quality magazines today.
