Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this SOUGHT-AFTER double-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 66-1, also known as the .357 Combat Magnum Stainless.

The Smith & Wesson Model 66 is one of the most desirable stainless K-frame revolvers ever produced, prized for its classic lines, excellent balance, and enduring reputation as the stainless counterpart to the legendary Model 19. Long favored by law enforcement and knowledgeable shooters, the Model 66 has become increasingly collectible as production has ended and demand for traditional Smith & Wesson revolvers continues to grow. High-condition examples are especially sought after, and this particular revolver stands out as a well-preserved specimen, enhancing both its appeal as a shooter and its value as a collectible piece.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 66, often referred to as the stainless “.357 Combat Magnum,” is the corrosion-resistant counterpart to the famed Model 19 and represents one of the most iconic K-frame revolvers ever produced. Introduced in 1970, the Model 66 combined the proven balance and handling of the K-frame with the durability of stainless steel, making it especially attractive to law enforcement officers and outdoorsmen who required a powerful yet manageable .357 Magnum revolver in varied environments. Typically fitted with adjustable sights and offered in barrel lengths such as 2½, 4, and 6 inches, the Model 66 provided excellent shootability while retaining the sleek lines and responsive double-action trigger pull for which Smith & Wesson revolvers are renowned.

From a historical and collector standpoint, the Model 66 holds a significant place in Smith & Wesson’s evolution toward stainless steel service revolvers. Early “no-dash” and dash-number variations reflect incremental engineering changes over its long production run, which lasted, with interruptions, into the early 21st century. While heavy use of full-power .357 Magnum ammunition could stress the K-frame over time, the revolver excelled with a balanced diet of .38 Special and moderate .357 loads, reinforcing its reputation as a practical fighting and duty revolver. Today, the Model 66 is widely appreciated for its classic styling, shootability, and historical importance, standing as a benchmark of the stainless steel combat revolver era and a highly desirable example for collectors and shooters alike.
