Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Commando 45 is a clone of the Thompson made as an inexpensive alternative to the high-quality submachine gun. It uses a more straightforward blowback mechanism and has a rougher fit and finish, contributing to reliability problems. It can only use box magazines instead of the Thompson drums. These guns are pushed out for a low cost, usually arming militia and criminals. This gun was made in Knoxville, Tennessee by Volunteer Enterprises, and is one of several incarnations of carbines that they made as Tommy gun lookalikes, relying on their resemblance to a Thompson 1927A-1 submachine gun to sell them. The Commando 45 version shown here was produced from 1976 to approximately the 1990s, with either a square wood forearm or this finger-groove vertical grip. The shoulder stock is reputedly the same as a Thompson stock.
The Mark 45 is a gun designed for law enforcement purposes to function reliably in difficult conditions where other guns may fail. Although it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, it is practical and affordable, and it gets the job done. As a sporting rifle, the Mark 45 is easy to handle, and fires with great accuracy, minimal recoil, and noise, without the danger of long-range ammunition. It is a great security option for those who like to keep their guns in their vehicle's gun rack. Farmers, guides, and others in remote areas often see the Mark 45 as a form of life insurance. For those who enjoy shooting for fun, the Mark 45 is a great option to enjoy some target practice.
