Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Pistole Parabellum—or Parabellum-Pistole (Pistol Parabellum), commonly known as just Luger or Luger P08, is a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol. The Luger was produced in several models and by several nations from 1898 to 1949. The design was first patented by Georg Luger. It was meant to be an improvement of the Borchardt C-93 pistol and was initially produced as the Parabellum Automatic Pistol, Borchardt-Luger System by the German arms manufacturer Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM). The Swiss Army had conducted tests and decided to adopt the Model 1900 as its standard sidearm on April 4, 1901. The pistol had a 7.65x21mm caliber, a 120 mm (4.7 in) barrel, and included a grip safety and leaf-type mainspring. It was designated as the Pistole 1900. Later, the Swiss military signed a contract with DWM to supply an improved version of the Model 1900/06 pattern pistols, which were designated as the Model 1906 or Pistole 1900/06. The Model 1906 Parabellum pistols were produced and assembled at Waffenfabrik Bern, Switzerland from 1918 onwards.
In 1929, the Swiss authorities adopted the Modell 06/29, an enhanced version of the Modell 1900, which had improved sights, trigger, and a stronger toggle link. This model was entirely manufactured at Waffenfabrik Bern and served the Swiss Army until the adoption of the SIG Sauer P210 in 1949. However, it remained in limited service until the late 1960s.
