The Swiss army realized that some of its support troops, cavalry, and certain other units needed a shorter rifle than what was currently available. To meet this requirement, they designed the Model 1911 Carbine, which was smaller, lighter, and still highly accurate. This carbine became a favorite of the Swiss Army and contributed to the design of its successor, the K31. The Swiss 1911 Carbine is the last variation with the flatter mag plate, grooved Schmidt Rubin design bolt, and bakelite charging handle which bench shooters tend to prefer. It is chambered in 7.5x55 caliber and features a straight pull. Despite the harsh weather conditions during training, Swiss soldiers took excellent care of their rifles to ensure their functionality and serviceability.
