Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction…this is the Manurhin / Walther Model PP!
**The Walther factory that made these pistols was located in Zella-Mehlis, which was occupied by the Soviet Union for a time after World War II. Allies prohibited the manufacture of weapons in Germany for a time. In 1952, Walther licensed the PP, PPK, and PPK/S designs to the French firm Manurhin. The full name is Manufacture de Machines du Haut-Rhin.**

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Manurhin/Walther PP is a historic and elegantly designed semi-automatic pistol, widely recognized for its reliability, accuracy, and classic European craftsmanship. Originally developed by Walther in the late 1920s, the Polizeipistole (PP) was among the first successful double-action/single-action semi-automatic handguns, setting the standard for police and military sidearms. However, due to post-World War II restrictions on German arms production, Walther licensed the PP and its compact counterpart, the PPK, to the French firearms manufacturer Manurhin in 1952. From that year until 1986, Manurhin produced these pistols in France using original Walther tooling and expertise, ensuring that the high standards of Walther engineering were maintained. Many of these pistols, even those with German markings, were actually manufactured at the Manurhin factory.

This particular Manurhin/Walther PP is chambered in .32 ACP (7.62mm), a caliber well-suited for the blowback-operated design, as the weight of the steel slide effectively manages recoil. It features a 3 7/8-inch fixed barrel, which enhances accuracy and reliability by eliminating barrel movement during cycling. The brown checkered synthetic grips, adorned with the Manurhin logo and “Llc. Walther.PP” markings, offer a secure and comfortable grip, while the fixed sights provide a clear and consistent sight picture. This specific example carries an added layer of history, as indicated by the “HK INC ARL VA 22201” marking on the front strap, signifying that it once served as a duty weapon for the Bavarian Police Department. Like all PP models, it operates with an exposed hammer, a manual safety with an integrated de-cocker, and a DA/SA trigger system, allowing for a smooth initial double-action pull followed by crisp, short-reset single-action follow-up shots. This combination of features, paired with its timeless design and historical significance, makes the Manurhin/Walther PP a highly desirable collector’s piece and a testament to European firearms engineering.
