Markings: Standard / The top left side of the monobloc is marked “Weatherby" inlet in gold and “20 GAUGE 3,” while the top right side of the monobloc is marked “MADE IN ITALY." The underside of the receiver is marked “WEATHERBY / REGENCY” inlet in gold. Both side plates feature beautiful hand-ornate engraving. The engraver signature “ICAM” is marked on the left side of the underside next to the trigger guard.

The Weatherby Regency over-under, introduced in 1970 in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Angelo Zoli, was a bold step for a company already renowned for its high-performance rifles. Designed as a high-grade shotgun, the Regency exemplified Weatherby’s commitment to craftsmanship and style, showcasing features that set it apart from its competitors. At a retail price of $500, it was positioned above the Belgian Browning Superposed, which cost $440 at the time. For this premium, buyers received a shotgun stocked in Claro walnut with a glossy finish, featuring ornate engraving on false side plates and a distinctive rosewood grip cap with white line spacers and a white diamond inlaid at the bottom. However, the Regency’s success was tempered by rising European inflation, which drove its price to $1,000 by 1977 and ultimately prompted Weatherby to shift production to Japan. Following the Regency, Weatherby partnered with Japanese manufacturers like KTG and Nikko/Kodensha, shifting its focus to more cost-effective production while maintaining high standards of reliability and craftsmanship. The transition to Japanese production helped Weatherby expand its shotgun offerings, such as the Patrician pump and Centurion semi-automatic models and, later, the SKB-made Orion and Athena over-under.
