Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Western Field trademark has appeared literally on hundreds of various models (shotguns and rifles) sold through the Montgomery Ward retail network. Most of these models were manufactured through subcontracts with both domestic and international firearms manufacturers. Typically, they were "spec." guns made to sell at a specific price to undersell the competition. Most of these models were derivatives of existing factory models with less expensive wood and perhaps missing the features found on those models from which they were derived.
The Marlin House Brand Cross Reference for Montgomery Wards/Western Field/Hawthorne is Western Field EMN 176 = Marlin 55. The Marlin Model 55 is a large, bolt-action, series of shotguns. It was produced in 20, 16, 12 and 10 gauge at various times in its production history. It features a full-choke and a thumb safety. The shotgun shells are fed via a two-round, detachable, box magazine.

This example will ship with 1 box - 25 rounds of Winchester Super Double X Magnum 20 Ga 3" 2 shot 1 1/4oz. Copper Plated shot shells seen pictured above!
