Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Whitney acquired manufacturing rights for this model from inventors T. Laidley and C.A. Emery, who had received the patent in 1866. Manufactured to compete with Remington's popular rolling-block action, this "split breech" variation presented a functional, but more complicated, four-piece breech system consisting of the hammer, locking cam, thumb-piece plate, and breechblock. Although far less common than the Remington rolling block, the Whitney-Laidley single shot rifle nonetheless won devotees among sport and market hunters in the West who appreciated its accomodation of a variety of the high powered cartridges. Approximately 50,000 manufactured totally between 1871 and 1881. There are a number of variations of this model.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
