Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Wildey pistol is a unique gas-operated, double-action or single-action firearm created by Wildey J. Moore. It was specifically designed as a hunting weapon and is capable of firing a range of high-pressure proprietary cartridges, including the .45 Winchester Magnum and the .475 Wildey Magnum. Currently, it is manufactured by USA Firearms Corp.-Wildey Guns in Winsted, Connecticut. The Wildey's gas-operated system is built to withstand breech pressures of over 48,000 PSI, which is associated with Moore's proprietary cartridges. This patented gas system is composed of an "air-hydraulic piston powered by the firing gases through six small holes in the barrel". The gas system is responsible for forcing the slide rearward and initiating the cycling of the pistol. One of the primary advantages of Wildey's gas-operated system is its ability to reliably operate heavy and light loads for each cartridge type.
