The Winchester Model 1200 is a historically significant pump-action shotgun that represents a pivotal shift in Winchester's manufacturing philosophy. Introduced in 1964 as a cost-effective successor to the iconic Model 12, the Model 1200 brought with it a number of modern engineering updates aimed at simplifying production without sacrificing reliability. Most notably, it employed a rotating bolt with four locking lugs—only the second shotgun to use such a system after the Armalite AR-17. This design allowed for smoother operation and stronger lock-up, enhancing both safety and performance. The aluminum receiver, dual-action bars, and hammerless firing system further streamlined the action while reducing weight.
