While pre-’64 Model 70s are revered for their controlled-round feed system and hand-crafted feel, Winchester’s decision in 1964 to implement cost-saving manufacturing changes—such as a push-feed bolt and investment casting—initially drew criticism from traditionalists. However, over the following decades, the Super Grade models from this era steadily regained favor. These rifles maintained the elegant styling and premium materials that define the Super Grade name, such as select walnut stocks with ebony fore-end tips, deep blued finishes, and finely checkered grips.
