The Winchester Model 70 XTR Sporter Magnum was introduced in the late 1970s and produced into the 1980s as part of Winchester’s upgraded XTR (Extra Range) line. Built on the classic Model 70 action, the Sporter Magnum featured a high-gloss checkered walnut stock, a Monte Carlo comb, and was chambered in hard-hitting magnum calibers like .300 Win Mag and .338 Win Mag. Designed for long-range hunting and big game performance, it combined accuracy, reliability, and power. With limited production numbers and its distinctive high-grade finish, the XTR Sporter Magnum has become a sought-after piece for collectors and hunters who appreciate Winchester's legacy of quality.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 70 is a bolt-action sporting rifle that has earned the nickname "The Rifleman's Rifle". This iconic rifle has been a part of American sporting culture since its introduction in 1936 and is highly regarded by shooters. The rifle's action is similar in design to Mauser rifles and is a development of the earlier Winchester Model 54. The Model 70 was originally produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1936 to 1980. From the early 1980s until 2006, U.S. Repeating Arms manufactured Winchester rifles under an agreement with Olin Corporation, which allowed them to use the Winchester name and logo. Model 70s were produced in New Haven, Connecticut until 2006 when production ceased. In late 2007, the Belgian company FN Herstal announced that they would resume Model 70 production. From 2012 onwards, new Winchester Model 70 rifles were made by FN Herstal in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2013, the assembly of the rifles was moved to Portugal.
