**This example is 1 of only 9422 ever produced and was the last 9422 model produced by Winchester**
Although the 9422 was well made of traditional materials with modern machinery, it was still expensive to produce. In 2005, USRAC decided to cease 9422 manufacture. A series of rifles called the “Tribute” editions were produced as the final hurrah. Exactly 9,422 were made with engraving ranging from very elaborate and expensive to quite reasonable. Both .22 LR and .22 magnum chamberings were employed. The last time the 9422 was listed was in the 2006 Winchester catalog. It ended up as probably the best-made Winchester rifle since 1964 when unfortunate cost-cutting measures were implemented.
In 2006, falling on economic hard times, USRAC called it quits and closed the doors of the old Winchester New Haven plant forever.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Model 9422 was intended—and by many accounts succeeded—in reestablishing Winchester’s reputation as a premium firearms manufacturer. Frames were forged and then milled. Internal components were of top-shelf quality—no pot metal or stamped parts. Stocks were nice walnut and were well-fitted and beautifully finished. The standard model featured a 20.25-inch, round barrel and a straight-grip stock with a shotgun-type buttplate, but myriad variations were made.
The 9422 action design was original and extremely reliable. The feed system handled the cartridge from the magazine to the breech face by its rim, and the slide cammed the rear of the breechblock up into the locking recess. A concealed polymer buffer above the breech gave a firm-feeling lockup and a very positive unlocking motion.
