This example is a nonfunctional single-shot shotgun, often referred to as a "parts gun," which is a firearm that lacks operational capability due to damage, missing components, or significant wear. Typically sold for salvageable parts or as a project for gun enthusiasts and hobbyists, these shotguns serve as repositories of potential replacement parts such as stocks, barrels, triggers, and receivers. A parts gun offers an affordable opportunity for individuals skilled in gunsmithing or restoration to breathe new life into vintage or obsolete models, preserving the legacy of classic firearms while providing a practical solution for those seeking to rebuild or customize their own shotgun.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Winchester’s single-shot Model 37 shotgun was a byproduct of the Great Depression when capable but inexpensive fowling pieces were a valuable asset to the family table. Simple and robust, the Model 37 featured a break-action receiver with a “semi-hammerless” design, meaning only the hammer spur was visible and accessible. A simple thumb lever atop the rear receiver tang opened the action, and an ejector tossed fired hulls over the shooter’s shoulder with a healthy “ping.”
