After WWII, Yugoslavia used former German machinery to manufacture a nearly identical version of the MG42, known as the M53. The M53 and other MG42 variations continue to see widespread use today, over 70 years after the MG42's initial implementation into military service during WWII. These M53 semi-automatic rifles were made from newly manufactured receivers from the US and imported Yugoslavian parts.
