After WWII Yugoslavia used former German machinery to manufacture a near identical version of the MG42, known as the M53. The M53 and other MG42 variations continue to see widespread use today, over 70 years after the MG42's initial implementation into military service during WWII. These M53 semi-automatic rifles were made from new US manufactured receivers and imported Yugoslavian parts.

Left side of the pistol grip is marked “A952”. Right side of the pistol grip is marked "S113-19142", the charging handle is marked “113-23334”, and the charging handle cover is marked “S114-23329”. The top plate is marked “384”.
