Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Model 1924 was the first Mauser-pattern rifle made in Yugoslavia. Its forerunner was the FN Model 24, which was produced for the Yugoslav army by Fabrique Nationale Herstal. However, the Ministry and FN signed a contract allowing the license for production of rifles 7.92mm Model 1924 to be purchased. Almost all Model 1924's were produced either before or during World War II at the Kragujevac Arsenal plant. The Yugoslavian Model 1924 and the FN M24 are almost identical and were designed to accept the M-24/48 pattern bayonet.

The M24 family's final additions were the M24/47 rifles. These were created by refurbishing existing pre-war Serbian Model 24 Mausers, and then refurbished with new parts at the Zastava Arms plant, which was then under the control of the post-war communist government. The "47" of the M-24/47 indicated the beginning of the rebuild program in 1947. The rebuild program lasted into the early 1950s, alongside new production of M48 rifles. M24 series rifles were used by the Royal Yugoslav Army and by nearly all sides during World War II in Yugoslavia.

In summary, these rifles were based on Mauser 98 rifles that were manufactured in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia and now Serbia) starting in 1924.
