Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this new take on a timeless and effective designed semi-automatic rifle for auction; this is the Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad!
The Springfield Armory Standard Issue M1A is a timelessly effective design, but sometimes circumstances call for something just a little bit shorter. The M1A Scout Squad rifle is 100% M1A, but with the 6-groove 1:11" twist carbon steel barrel trimmed back to 18". Featuring military aperture sights with 1-MOA adjustments and a classic walnut stock, this compact rifle runs great on the hunt, from a vehicle, or around the farm.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The M1A lineage is Springfield Armory’s civilian evolution of the U.S. military M14—a long-stroke, gas-operated, rotating-bolt rifle that distilled the powerful 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge into a durable, all-around battle rifle. Built on a stout, forged receiver with a long, effective sight radius and a two-lug bolt with a robust locking surface, the M1A design emphasizes mechanical simplicity, repeatable headspacing, and a proven gas system that tolerates varied ammunition and extended hard use. In practical terms, that translates to a rifle with excellent inherent accuracy for a semi-automatic, a steady recoil impulse for magnum intermediate cartridges, and a platform that is easy to maintain in the field—qualities that made the original M14 family serviceable and that carry over to Springfield’s commercial M1A offerings. The M1A’s familiar ergonomics, military-grade sights, and strong aftermarket support also make it a popular foundation for hunters, precision shooters, and those who want a classic American battle-rifle feel in a semi-automatic sporting rifle. The Scout Squad is Springfield’s compact, fast-handling take on that heritage—built to be handier in the field while retaining the M1A’s durability and accuracy. Key features include an 18", 1:11" six-groove carbon-steel barrel, a forward (scout-style) Picatinny rail for low-mounted optics, a National Match–tuned two-stage trigger, and a muzzle brake to tame recoil; it ships with a single 10-round magazine and weighs roughly 9 pounds depending on furniture and finish. Those choices make the Scout Squad noticeably shorter and easier to maneuver than a full-length M1A, improving quick target acquisition and carry comfort without sacrificing the cartridge’s ballistic performance. Practical strengths are fast, natural handling, the ability to mount forward-mounted red-dot or scout optics for rapid target engagement, and the reliable M1A gas system; tradeoffs include added muzzle blast and slightly reduced muzzle velocity versus longer barreled variants, and the Scout-style layout is best suited to hunting, patrol/defense in brush or CQB roles and shooters who favor deliberate, magazine-fed semi-automatic performance.
