The Springfield Armory V10 Ultra Compact is a distinctive late-1990s take on the classic 1911 platform, designed to deliver full-power .45 ACP performance in a highly concealable defensive package. Built as a recoil-operated, single-action semi-automatic pistol, it typically features a short 3.5-inch barrel, an overall length of about 7 inches, and a weight in the low-30-ounce range, depending on the variant, making it compact yet solidly built with steel construction. A defining characteristic of the model is its factory “V10” porting system—10 small ports cut into both the barrel and the slide—which was intended to reduce muzzle rise and perceived recoil, though it also produces a noticeable flash and blast when fired. Standard safety features follow traditional 1911 practice, including a manual thumb safety and grip safety, while magazine capacities ranged from 6- or 7-round single-stack configurations up to higher-capacity variants holding around 10 rounds.
