The Taurus Model 85 Ultra-Lite is a lightweight compact revolver produced by Taurus International and designed primarily for concealed carry and personal defense. Based on the long-running Taurus Model 85 platform, the Ultra-Lite variant was developed to provide shooters with a reliable small-frame revolver while significantly reducing overall weight by using an aluminum alloy frame rather than the traditional all-steel construction. Chambered in .38 Special and typically rated for +P defensive ammunition, the revolver features a five-shot cylinder and a compact design that makes it easy to carry in a pocket, purse, or concealed holster. Most examples have a barrel length of approximately 2 inches, giving the revolver a classic “snub-nose” configuration that prioritizes portability and quick handling in close-range defensive situations. The Model 85 Ultra-Lite operates in a traditional double-action/single-action format, allowing the shooter to either fire by pulling the trigger through a longer double-action stroke or manually cock the hammer for a lighter, more precise single-action shot. Its small frame and simplified controls follow the same practical defensive revolver philosophy seen in models such as the Smith & Wesson Model 642 and other compact carry guns.
