Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this seldom-seen single-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Texas Longhorn Arms, Inc. Grover's Improved Number “Five”.
The Texas Longhorn Arms Grover's Improved Number Five is a rare and highly interesting modern tribute to one of the most famous custom revolvers ever conceived by legendary gun writer Elmer Keith. Produced by Texas Longhorn Arms during the late 1970s and early 1980s, these revolvers faithfully incorporated many of Keith’s innovative improvements to the traditional single-action design, including an ergonomic grip frame and enhanced handling features. With production estimated at only around 1,200 revolvers before the company ceased operations, the Grover’s Improved Number “Five” remains a scarce and desirable piece among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its unique connection to Keith’s legendary custom revolver and its place in modern single-action history.

The Texas Longhorn Arms Grover's Improved Number Five is a distinctive modern recreation inspired by one of the most unusual and advanced single-action revolvers of the Old West. Produced by Texas Longhorn Arms beginning in the 1970s, the design was based on the historic No. 5 Single Action Army Revolver originally developed in the late 1920s by famed gun writer and experimenter Elmer Keith. Keith’s custom revolver incorporated a number of ergonomic and mechanical improvements to the traditional single-action design, including a reshaped grip frame, modified hammer spur, and improved cylinder pin retention system. The Grover’s Improved Number “Five” sought to faithfully reproduce these enhancements while maintaining the rugged reliability and traditional appeal associated with classic single-action revolvers.

Manufactured primarily during the late 1970s and early 1980s, these revolvers were offered in a variety of popular calibers such as .44 Special and .45 Colt, and were noted for their high level of craftsmanship and attention to historical detail. The revolvers featured distinctive grip frames, wide hammer spurs, and refined internal improvements that enhanced handling and durability. Though produced in relatively limited numbers compared to mainstream revolvers of the era, the Grover’s Improved Number “Five” earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts of western firearms and followers of Elmer Keith’s legacy. Today, examples remain sought after by collectors who appreciate their unique connection to Keith’s influential revolver design philosophy and their place within the revival of classic single-action firearms in the late twentieth century.
