Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Uberti 1873 Sporting Rifle is a faithful, modern reproduction of the famous Winchester Model 1873 — often called “the rifle that won the West” — built by Uberti in Italy for shooters who want authentic lever-action styling with modern manufacturing and materials. Uberti offers the 1873 in a number of sporting and special-edition trims (including octagonal-barrel Sporting and shorter 20" anniversary/hunter versions), so examples range from plain-finished working rifles to richly finished presentation pieces. Mechanically it’s the familiar Winchester-pattern lever action: solid steel receiver, tubular magazine under the barrel, loading gate, and a choice of round or octagon barrels. Common sporting configurations use full-length barrels in the mid-20" range and magazine tube capacities in the double-digits (typical 10–13 rounds depending on caliber and barrel length), with adjustable rear sights and walnut stocks that reproduce the period look while delivering good modern fit and accuracy. Many sporting models are offered in .45 Long Colt, .357 Magnum/.38 Spl, and .44-40 WCF, letting owners pair the rifle with a like-chambered revolver if desired. In use the Uberti 1873 Sporting Rifle is prized by shooters and collectors for its combination of historical authenticity and modern reliability — it’s popular for cowboy action, western-themed shooting, brush hunting with traditional cartridges, and as a display-grade piece when finished in deluxe case-hardened or engraved variants. Special runs (150th-anniversary models, limited engraved deluxe pieces and “John Wayne” style editions) are especially sought after by collectors and often command premium prices when complete with original packaging and documentation.
